Hi folks!

Something that started at East this year was an opportunity for Brigadiers to sign up for shifts working in the Child's Play booth. They really appreciate it and need the help. Currently it is a volunteer opportunity limited to Enforcers and brigadiers at PAX.

In order to help the volunteers who work the booths become more knowledgeable about Child's Play and the work they do Beker has asked for a list of volunteers who would be interested in both working at a PAX booth and accompanying them on hospital visits as they start this year's hospital tour. He cautioned that this is emotionally draining and he only wants people who are mature, serious and interested. For more information here is a link to Tycho's account of his visit. https://www.penny-arcade.com/news/post/2016/01/13/unhelpful-ism

If you are interested you are committing to volunteer in the Child's Play booth. This is a small group event so only 1 person would be invited to a visit. He did mention they could accommodate 2 if they were spouses. Beker would be contacting you himself. There is no guarantee that you will be contacted or that there will be a hospital visit near you. For those who would like this opportunity and could commit to working in a booth please provide your name, email, phone number and location (hometown and airport). If you have questions I will do my best to get you an answer. Please understand we will be providing this list to Beker and it is an ongoing document, so feel free to add or remove your name as circumstances change. We did ask about bringing food and if you have the opportunity to participate a plate of cookies for nurses and other staff is always welcome.

Thank you for all that you do to keep the brigade running. This is a chance to see those who are most profoundly affected by the work we do.  I think it will be an incredibly rewarding experience for those who are interested and prepared.

You know I am down for this. I helped out at the booth before they pulled CB into it, and I'd love to do it again. I also used to work at Seattle Children's and I gotta tell you that on the other side of the stick, doing a video call with a mommy who's finally able to get to hold her own child to the rest of her family is like the best feeling ever. There's definitely ups and downs.

Put me down, I'm in the Seattle area, and I can travel anywhere that Alaska Airlines can take me. My email is [email protected]

That said, while I can talk Child's Play and Cookie Brigade all day, I haven't been as active as of recent. If someone else who's been more active recently wants to go, I wouldn't mind letting them have that experience.

Here be my updated info

My boyfriend and I would absolutely love to help if there are opportunities in CT or NY. Understood if the opportunity would be limited to 1 person.

I would love to be a part of this. I helped out at the East booth and it was such a great experience. If I can help in any way, I would be greatly honored.

I'm always happy to help work the booth, both me and Rob really enjoyed the opportunity at East.

I'd also be honored to do a hospital visit, I have some experience on that front as I use to do a lot of nursing home and hospital visits with the girl scouts and some volunteer groups. As Happendy said, it definitely has both its ups and downs, it can be emotionally trying but its always worth it. Some of my best childhood memories are at the nursing home and just seeing the light come into the eyes of someone who has so many stories to tell and is just overjoyed that someone is truly interested. Or seeing just a little bit of stress leave a mother's shoulders in a hospital when you sit down for 20 minutes and play Candyland with her other kid and she gets just a few brief moments to step away and take off the strong mask she keeps on for their sake.

So they've asked for Hometown, Home airport, email address and phone number. If those of you who have already filled it out and add that to your info I'd appreciate it.
